Introduction - Higgy the tattoo artist

(Paul Higginson) #1

Hi folks my name is Paul though most know me as Higgy, I’m 50 years old and work as a tattoo artist. When I left school in 1980 I went to Rolls Royce motors in Crewe and served a 4 year apprenticeship as a coach painter. Over the years I have painted everything thing from Rolls show cars for the Frankfurt and Geneva motor shows, the last Silver Shadow to be made, trucks, a vintage fire engine which won the London/Brighton run for it’s class and numerous custom motorcycles. My dad was a old school time served painter and decorator who could paint anything including signs and faux finishes. The reason I’m here is to find new ways of applying old traditional skills in order to keep those skills alive for future generations, find a little extra income, make new friends and hopefully learn new things. I own a collection of old books on the subject of coach painting, sign writing and decorating, some dating back to the mid 19 century. I hope I might contribute in some small way and look forward to maybe meeting some of you one day!!!

Hi there Higgy

Nice to have you on the forum, you sound like a talented lad! I did a couple of years traditional signwriting at night school back in the early 90s. Never done that many signs but learnt and used the skills on various projects over time.

I have a few tats myself, still got a sleeve needs finishing, so might have to pop down to crew! My sons also getting a lot of ink work done by a lad up in Leeds, half way through a chest piece and full leg sleeve at the minute. Do you specialise in anything (tat wise)?
