Painting exterior metal

(Holty) #1

Hello everybody,
I have been asked to paint a garage door and some railings. It’s all in pretty bad condition so am in need of some advice.
The garage door has a lot of peeling paint so wanted to ask if it was advisable to strip it all off (if so what would be the best method?) or scrape the flaky bits off and sand smooth then paint?
The railings do have areas of deep rust penetration in a few areas and some of them are in tricky areas to get to like the anchor points at floor level (where water collects).
Would wire brush attachments for my mini grinder be appropriate for the railings or the garage door? Was thinking about using Allocoat for this project but am open to suggestions.
Thanks chaps!
