Painting new putty

(dave D9 decor) #1

Whats the definitive on painting over new putty?
How long before painting over, what primer etc

When I,m prepping sash windows I fill the gaps with Repair Care glazing sealant
But the glaziers we use and the sash window refurb co we work in conjunction with will only use putty (cost based decision) so there are occasions I have to deal with new putty.

Touprett window putty would be your best choice, and should be able to paint in about 7 days.

New putty should be left to cure for at least 7 days and no longer than 28 days before painting, if longer the formed skin will begin to crack and the paint will fail quickly.
