Can decorator merchants correctly advise on right ladder for the job

Browns Ladders in lancashire have posted a basic introduction that explains the importance of matching the correct ladder to the job in hand.

They mention that it is probably not a good idea to rely on the advice from B&Q etc, which isnt too much of a stretch, but I wonder, thinking about my own experience over the years, what is the standard of knowledge in decorator merchants?

It is still pretty much a case of here they are, pick one from the rack, isnt it?

The ones that I have asked over the years, all come with the same line, “this BS… blah blah blah”, there is a serious lack of knowledge, out there, as to the suitability of a ladder to a job, rung choice, safety products.
They all seem to rely on printed manuf, cat’s to give any sort of advice.
