Garden bench slats weatherproofing

I have recently restored an old garden bench and replaced the rotten slats with new mahogany slats. I’ve treated the slats with two coats of teak oil. My questions are (i) do I need to add a coat of clear varnish or will the teak oil be sufficient?, (ii) if the teak oil is sufficient, how often will I need to re-coat the slats?

Hi “teak oil” is an equal mix of tung oil, boiled linseed oil and varnish - 1:1:1

I would stick with the oil, and as the wood gets dried out, re-coat it. Depending on the exposure it gets, this could be once or twice a year.

As with most exterior maintenance, keep on top of it, more is better than less.

Many thanks Andy.
