Had a question from a budding furniture painter, looking into the nitty gritty of milk paint.
Here is a really good article that compares and contrasts milk paint v chalk paint.
You can get casein emulsion paint http://www.greatart.co.uk/PELIKANPLAKAPAINTS-tempera-poster-paints.htm
There are some home maker recipes, one here. http://www.marthastewart.com/272306/milk-paint-recipe
Leading on from that I would say that furniture can be painted so many different ways with so many products and is specialist enough a field without limiting yourself to one finish only. But milk paint obviously has its place.
Any other experiences or thoughts or questions about milk paint, please add them here.
